If you are looking for an intimate, quirky Suffolk venue steeped in history, then you need to take a look at Bury St Edmunds Guildhall.
With over 800 years of history, this treasured building exudes character and charm: from the Regency Banqueting Hall and Galleried Georgian Courtroom to the Tudor Kitchen and Sensory Garden, this ancient and beautifully refurbished civic building will fascinate and delight your guests.
Stepping into the Entrance Hall from the cobbled street, the Guildhall has an almost Alice in Wonderland-esque feel to it; with its warren of rooms, it's a bit like entering an enchanting world that is quirky, cute and compact, yet magnificent and grand at the same time.
The Guildhall has everything you would expect from a stately venue: high ceilings, large rooms, portraits and chandeliers, together with some smaller, endearing features, including a mezzanine level, small snugs and cute window spaces.
Pretty much every room at the Guildhall holds a license (and that includes the Sensory Garden) meaning you can create a wedding day that reflects you as a couple: if you want to keep it small, opt for one of the smaller rooms or spaces, or, if big is your thing, then hire out one of the larger ceremony rooms complete with balconies and chandeliers!
In our eyes, this is what makes Bury St Edmunds Guildhall perfect for couples - there is so much flexibility in terms of hire; you can hire one room, a few rooms, or, go the whole hog and hire the lot. There are also some great outside spaces including a cute Sensory garden and a lawned area.
Licensed for music (personally, we LOVE the idea of turning the courtroom bench into a DJ stage) and alcohol, and furnished with kitchens - the Guildhall has pretty much everything you need.
From THIS Summer, you will be able to get married here. So, go ahead, take a look - quick, before everyone else discovers this hidden gem!
